Project Overview:
The Durrat Al Bahrain Bridges project stands as a hallmark of engineering excellence, serving as a vital component of the prestigious 20km2 Durrat Al Bahrain Development. Commissioned by Durrat Khaleej Al Bahrain, this monumental endeavor, executed under the expert guidance of Kuwaiti Manager Co. & Bovis Lend Lease J.V, and expertly constructed by Nass – Murray & Roberts JV, represents a pivotal contribution to Bahrain’s infrastructure landscape.
Project Details:
The contract encompasses the construction of thirteen meticulously engineered concrete bridges, spanning a total length of 3.5 km, strategically connecting the individual islands within the expansive Durrat Al Bahrain Development. Six bridges seamlessly link the Petals with the main Crescent, while an additional six bridges facilitate connectivity between the Petals and the Atolls. A singular bridge serves as a vital artery to the hotel island.
Key Features:
- Bridge Specifications: The project features a diverse range of bridge configurations, with lengths ranging from 162m to 520m, each boasting a width of 14.5m and supported by piles of 1.2m diameter.
- Location: Situated on the southeast coast of Bahrain, adjacent to the Sheikh Isa Air Base, the Durrat Al Bahrain development site is strategically positioned to enhance accessibility and connectivity within the region.
General Description of Works:
The construction scope encompasses a comprehensive array of tasks aimed at ensuring structural integrity, functionality, and longevity:
- Foundation Works: Bored and cast in-situ reinforced piling to establish robust foundation support.
- Structural Elements: Construction of reinforced concrete pier beams, bridge substructures, precast post-tensioned deck slabs, parapets, and sidewalks to uphold structural integrity and safety standards.
- Auxiliary Structures: Installation of service tunnels, waterproofing systems, asphalting, abutments, wing walls, and approach slabs to enhance operational efficiency and safety.
- Water Management: Channel dredging and scour protection measures implemented to mitigate environmental risks and ensure sustainable water management.
