Project Overview:

The ALBA Line 6 Expansion Project marks a pivotal advancement in the realm of smelting, positioning ALBA as the largest single-site smelter upon project completion. Anticipated to commence production in early 2019, the Line 6 Expansion Project is poised to significantly augment aluminum production capacity by 514,000 metric tonnes annually upon full ramp-up. This expansion initiative necessitates the construction of a fifth power station (PS5) and Power Distribution System (PDS) to cater to escalating power demands.

Project Specifications:

  • PS5 Configuration: PS5 is envisioned as a cutting-edge Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) plant, incorporating state-of-the-art ‘F’ or ‘H’ class gas turbine technology in a 1 x 1 x 1 multishaft configuration.
  • Electrical Output: The CCGT plant is designed to deliver a minimum net electrical output capacity of 1,350MW at ISO conditions. It comprises three completely separate and independent generating blocks in a multishaft 1 x 1 x 1 configuration, each comprising a Combustion Turbine Generator (CTG), a Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG), and a Steam Turbine Generator (STG).

Contract Scope:

This contract entails serving as the civil engineering partner for GAMA on the Power Station project. The remeasurable contract encompasses the following areas of scope:

Site Mobilization Works:

  • Earthworks for trench excavation and backfilling for underground services.
  • Installation of manholes and pits (may include precast options).
  • Formwork, reinforcement, and concrete works for building foundations.
  • Supply and installation of wastewater systems, septic tanks (installation only), domestic water systems, and fire-fighting systems.

Main Civil Works:

  • Excavation and backfilling for equipment foundations.
  • Formwork, reinforcement, concrete, and waterproofing for equipment foundations.
  • Installation of structural anchor bolts and embedded items.
  • Installation of underground pipework (HDPE and carbon steel).
  • Construction of manholes, pits (with possible precast options), and covers.
  • Construction of precast cable galleries, including excavation and installation.
  • Construction of insitu RC underground electrical rooms.
  • Miscellaneous excavation works.
  • Installation of steel decking (trapezoidal, subject to client decision), ducting for cabling, grounding/earthing, and fencing/gates.
